Ms. Flaherty is a Partner in the firm’s Litigation Department and a member of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group. Ms. Flaherty practices in the areas of medical malpractice, health care law, and personal injury litigation. She has experience litigating cases in both state and federal courts.
Ms. Flaherty has also prepared and successfully argued a large number of appeals in New York State’s appellate courts, including the Court of Appeals. The appeals Ms. Flaherty has handled encompass a wide range of issues, including general negligence, toxic torts, medical malpractice, labor law, and special proceedings. Ms. Flaherty also counsels trial litigants on the preservation of arguments and the submission of evidence to ensure appellate review.
While attending law school, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Toledo Law Review; she selected articles for publication and oversaw the entire publication process. Ms. Flaherty also served as a member of the governing board of the University of Toledo College of Law.
Before joining Damon Morey, Ms. Flaherty completed a two-year clerkship at the Appellate Division, Fourth Judicial Department. Ms. Flaherty analyzed appellate briefs and records, researched legal issues raised on appeal and recommended decisions to the court on a variety of civil cases, including cases involving discovery disputes, post-trial applications, administrative law, town law, election law, negligence, labor law, and matrimonial law, as well as on criminal cases.
Ms. Flaherty is a member of the Erie County Bar Association. She earned Super Lawyers designation in New York State as named by Super Lawyers magazine in both 2010 and 2011 for Personal Injury Defense and Medical categories. She serves on the board of the YWCA of WNY and is chair of the Community Association for the Elmwood Village Charter School.
