Marylou Kathryn Roshia is a partner at
Damon & Morey, LLP, practicing in the firm’s
Litigation Department. Ms. Roshia actively appears in Federal Court
on matters involving employment law, civil rights claims involving the
first, fourth, fifth, eighth and fourteenth amendments, Fair Housing
Act, Americans with Disability Act, Age Discrimination in Employment
Act, Electronic Funds Transfer Act and diversity jurisdiction. She also
has experience in product liability, school law and zoning matters. She
also focuses on
medical malpractice defense of physicians
and hospitals and the representation of physicians at proceedings before
the Office of Professional Misconduct. Additionally, Ms. Roshia defends
civil rights claims involving the First, Fourth, Fifth, Eighth, and
Fourteenth Amendments. She also has experience in cases involving the
Fair Housing Act, Americans with Disability Act, Age Discrimination in
Employment Act, product liability, and school law.
Ms. Roshia served as Confidential Law Clerk to the Honorable William M.
Skretny, United States District Court Judge for the Western District of
New York. Additionally, Ms. Roshia served as co-counsel for the Prison
Superintendent in the major litigation stemming from the 1971 Attica
Prison riot and co-authored a brief in support of a writ of certiorari
to the United States Supreme Court. She also has served as lead counsel
on numerous matters before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Roshia was an associate with the New York City law firm of Paul,
Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison from 1989 through 1991, where her
focus was on commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions,
securities, and intellectual property.
Ms. Roshia received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, magna cum laude, in 1984 from the
State University of New York at Brockport. She went on to receive a
J.D. degree, cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University in
1989. Ms. Roshia was the recipient of the Three Year Merit Scholarship
to attend law school, and upon graduation received the West Publishing
Award, the Friedman Award, and the Matrimonial Lawyers’ Association
Award.
In addition to her legal experience, Ms. Roshia practiced coronary
care/intensive care nursing at the Albany Medical Center, surgical
intensive care nursing at Rochester General Hospital, and
emergency/intensive care nursing at Jones Memorial Hospital in
Wellsville, New York.
Ms. Roshia is a member of the Erie County Bar Association, the New York
Bar Association, the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association, and the
American Association of Nurse Attorneys. Ms. Roshia is also a graduate
of the Leadership Buffalo Class of 2004.
