7/21/08 Randolph C. Oppenheimer Appointed to 8th Judicial District's Roster of ADR Neutrals

Buffalo, N.Y. - Damon & Morey LLP is pleased to announce that Randolph C. Oppenheimer has been appointed to the 8th Judicial District’s Roster of ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Neutrals by the New York State Office of Court Administration.

Mr. Oppenheimer’s appointment qualifies him as an approved Commercial Litigation Mediator. He previously served on Judge Makowski’s panel for many years after having completed specialized training for commercial litigators in 2001.

Mr. Oppenheimer is Special Counsel for Damon & Morey whose practice focuses on Labor and Employment, Commercial Litigation and Intellectual Property. He has represented clients before state and federal agencies and courts for more than twenty-eight years.

Active in the community, Mr. Oppenheimer currently serves as the Vice-President of the Board of Directors for Legal Services for the Elderly, Disabled and Disadvantaged of Western New York, a Trustee for the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History, and the President of the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Lower Great Lakes Fishery Resources Office (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service).

In 2007, Mr. Oppenheimer was selected as a member of Business First of Buffalo's Who's Who in Law List for Labor and Employment. He is also listed as one of The Best Lawyers in America for Labor and Employment and as one of Upstate New York's Super Lawyers for Business Litigation.

Mr. Oppenheimer received his B.A. degree, in Political Science, from the University of Vermont in 1976. He went on to earn his J.D. degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1979. While in law school, Mr. Oppenheimer served as the Associate Editor of Law Review.

7/11/08 Michael Strzalka Joins Damon & Morey As Director of Human Resources
 

 

Buffalo, N.Y. – Damon & Morey LLP is pleased to announce that Michael Strzalka has joined the firm as Director of Human Resources.

As a member of the Firm’s Administrative Team, Mr. Strzalka will be responsible for guiding and managing all phases of human resources activities for approximately 200 attorneys and support staff. He will also assist in supporting and developing a superior workforce.

An experienced professional, Mr. Strzalka brings a strong consultative and strategic human resources background to the firm. Prior to joining Damon & Morey, he worked for First Niagara Bank, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and Acts Testing Labs.

Mr. Strzalka received his B.S. degree, in Psychology, from Canisius College in 1990. He is also currently pursuing his Masters degree at Daemen College.

7/8/08 Ellen R. Pierino Named Vice President of the UB Women’s Club

Buffalo, N.Y. - Damon & Morey is pleased to announce Ellen R. Pierino was named the 2008-2009 Vice President of the UB Women’s Club.

The Women’s Club is a service organization to the University at Buffalo and its community. Members participate in educational and charitable activities which directly support the Annual Grace W. Capen Academic Awards for Outstanding Academic Achievement.

Mrs. Pierino is currently the Coordinator of Documents & Risk Management for Damon & Morey LLP. Her educational background includes a Master’s degree of Library Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo, where she also completed an undergraduate degree in History. Mrs. Pierino earned her Master’s degree in Science of Education from Canisius College and is certified by New York State in primary education.

Mrs. Pierino’s memberships include the Association of Legal Administrators, Association of Law Libraries of Upstate New York, Friends of the UB Center of the Arts, Canisius College Alumni Association, National Association of Realtors, New York State Association of Realtors and the Buffalo-Niagara Association of Realtors. She also has a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer license from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Active in the community, Mrs. Pierino is a member of the Advisory Council to the UB Center for the Arts. She has served as a member for the Erie County Cultural Resources Advisory Board and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Society board. Additionally, she has served in various positions on the Orchestra’s Women’s Committee board including the position of President for two terms. Mrs. Pierino is also a member of the Lockport Town and Country Club.

7/2/08 Debra Smith Kaczmarek Graduates from the Cheektowaga Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy

Buffalo, NY – Damon & Morey is pleased to announce that Debra Smith Kaczmarek recently graduated from the Cheektowaga Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy.

The Citizens’ Police Academy is a thirteen week program that educates the citizens of the Town of Cheektowaga on the operations and procedures of their police department, provides awareness of the police officers’ role in the criminal justice system and officer’ authority and limitations, and strengthens the bond of the police community relationship and reduces crime. Members of the academy participate in activities such as ride-a-longs, K-9 demonstrations, and the shooting range.

Debra Smith Kaczmarek is a paralegal in Damon & Morey’s General Litigation Department.  Her major areas of concentration are in the areas of general, personal injury and product liability defense litigation.  Her responsibilities include interviewing clients and expert witnesses; preparation of legal documents; trial preparation and assisting in document productions.

Ms. Kaczmarek is greatly involved with the Western New York Paralegal Association, Inc. including recently being named to the Pro Bono Committee. Some of her past responsibilities include serving as the Program/Advertising Chair of the 30th Anniversary Committee; President and Vice President of Programming and Publicity; Chair of the Advisory Board; Vice President of Membership; and member of the Professional Development Committee.
