The Summer Associate Program

Our Summer Associate Program is our primary recruiting tool. We hire Summer Associates with the hope and expectation that they will join us as Associates after graduation, and we hire all Associates with the hope and expectation that they will eventually become Partners within the firm. For ten to twelve weeks during the summer, the Summer Associates are given assignments which are typically given to first or second year Associates. It is a time during which we are able to view the performance of the Summer Associates and they are able to get a realistic glimpse of what it is like to be a full-time Associate at Damon & Morey. A few of the highlights of the Summer Associate Program are discussed below.

Activities

Partners take the Summer Associates out to lunch throughout the summer. These casual lunches provide the Summer Associates with an opportunity to get to know our Partners and have candid discussions with them about the firm. In addition, on a weekly basis a Partner speaks to the Summer Associates about his/her practice department.

There are also a myriad of other social events ranging from a summer party to weekly softball games.

Evaluations and Feedback

Each time a Summer Associate completes a project, the assigning attorney completes an evaluation form and is encouraged to discuss the work product directly with the Summer Associate. There are also mid-summer and end-of-the-summer evaluations with the Chair of the Recruiting Committee to discuss each Summer Associate’s progress.

Mentor Program

Each Summer Associate is assigned two mentors – one Partner mentor and one Associate mentor. The mentors ensure that the Summer Associate is receiving a reasonable number of assignments and that the Summer Associate is satisfied with the range of assignments. In addition, the mentors are available to address any general questions or issues that might arise.
